I love the idea of "hope builds" too. We call hope a virtue, but too often forget and think of it as a feeling. It can only be a virtue if we practice it. Regularly recalling ourselves to hope. Practicing the thoughts and actions associated with it in the face of despair. So it is a thing we must practice. But the phrase "hope builds" suggests something more: That perhaps the divine within us is also practicing her craft of greening power. And that it is not all up to us. Hope builds.
So helpful to have readers point out lines here! And how lovely that hope becomes a builder, the one who builds us up and the one we need to build up, too.
“The small things of life were often so much bigger than the great things . . . the trivial pleasure like cooking, one’s home, little poems especially sad ones, solitary walks, funny things seen and overheard.” - Virginia Woolf Quote via AI
It would be so nice if we could just see what is. It is all little things from the view of 70 years old.
thank you, Melodie, also for the great quote. There is the whole dialectics of life hidden here somewhere, when the small things turn out to also be the great things and big things turn little in the end. Peace and blessings!
Gorgeous! I love the idea of retreating to the little things. Especially having recently come back from a big retreat (Belize!) and trying to remember that there are little moments of retreat everyday.
Thank you Jill. And Yes, our little one really sees her the first time this year as we have not been up north for so very long. Indeed so much a juxtaposition to the little things. May be the vastness of nature helps us appreciate the little important things while letting go of the little unimportant things we so often regard bigger as they are. Watching the waves of Lake Superior crashing to shore definitely helps 😇
Good poetry makes you feel even more than it makes you understand. I feel the peace of the little things in this moment, just having read it. Well done. And thank you.
Oh, thank you, Kelly, for being here and for sharing and for letting your heart be moved. I love to hear that, that the peace of the little things has come through my words.
Enjoying the little things does not come always naturally to me. I am honestly more of a worrier and it is work to remind the little things and to let them speak to my heart 😎
For me, the power of the little things to capture my attention always, always makes me catch my breath because they are so unexpected. They allow me to stop all the noise around me and inside me. I cherish those small things. Often it is not a thing, but maybe a friend's giggle, or my grandson holding my hand extra tight...making sure I'm okay, or as happened once, my daughter's cat, Leah, on the counter above me, putting her paws on the sides of my head and licking the top of my head. That was little but mighty... telling me, I'm am her family. Thank you, Almut!
What a lovely note, thank you Kathleen. And what an amazing picture you share with us. Leah, the cat! What a blessing she was giving you! Made my day 😇

Your poem reminded me of the affirmation I have been meditating on this week! Thank you!
lovely, I only saw your comment now. Thank you.
You’re very welcome!
Love this --
hope
builds its beginning
in the small chambers
of your heart.
Thank you Jan, just saw your comment now. Thank you for being here with us 😇.
I've recently learned to enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things. Beautiful Dr Almut.

It’s lovely to see them Almut xx
I love the juxtaposition of little things against Lake Superior. She is superior for a reason!

I hear you. We write what we need to hear ourselves most of all. 😊
I read some where that that makes good poets 😇
You proved that true today!

I'm in the airport right now fearing I will drown in the noise, so that’s what jumped out to me.
Great to hear that, Amy. peace to you on your travels!
Hope builds.....
